Inventory
Identifying and mapping the agricultural resources, including active farmlands, agricultural soils, and associated infrastructure, within the Monadnock region of New Hampshire.
What farms do we have?
We have surveyed farms in the Monadnock region to gather information about what types of products are being produced locally and where and how people can purchase them. Compiled information will contribute to the growing number of resources—both on the Internet and in print—that help people know where to go to find local food products.
Mapping our current and potential farmland
Using GIS mapping software, the Inventory Committee is working to create maps of the existing farmland in Cheshire County. Comparing these maps to other maps that show where good growing conditions exist will help us to better know which lands would be ideal targets for efforts to conserve and protect this valuable resource.
MFCC will gladly work to produce a map of your county’s agricultural resources. We only ask that you cover the cost of materials (paper and ink). Maps are available in almost any size, and can be made available in print or electronic form. Please contact us and let us know what you are interested in and we’ll work out all the details.
Agricultural Commissions
These non-regulatory town boards can serve as a voice for agriculture when towns are making decisions that directly affect forest and farm landowners and influence agricultural land-use planning. In 2009 the Inventory Committee held a forum on Agricultural Commissions to inform Cheshire County community members of the benefits of town Agricultural Commissions and highlight the steps needed to start an Agricultural Commission in your hometown.
Couldn’t make it to our Agricultural Commissions forum? Want to share this information with others in your town but not sure how? Please contact us if you are interested having us come to your town to share information about what Agricultural Commissions are and how they might help farming landowners in your town.
